The definition of compensation impacts the operation of a qualified plan in multiple ways including non-discrimination testing and calculation of benefits and contributions. This workshop will provide the attendees with a roadmap through the various definitions of compensation under the Internal Revenue Code.

This session will explore the emerging concept of defined contribution healthcare benefits (DCHB). We will discuss the defining characteristics of DCHB, the market factors that are driving interest in this concept, the barriers to implementing DCHB, and variables that could accelerate its development. The presentation is based on the findings of a PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP research study that included employers, health insurers, e-health firms, policy experts, and consumers.
 
3:20 - 4:00 p.m. Health Care Cost Management: A Physician's Perspective

How can health plans manage costs and enhance quality of care? This session will examine how physician participation in practice profiling, peer review, and chronic disease management can help replicate best practices through a health plan. We will also discuss managing costs through risk sharing between a health plan and participating physicians and risk sharing within a physician IPA.
